So grab a glass of wine, settle in, and let's embark on a journey of discovery and connection together. Cheers. Hi. Welcome to the first episode of the Realtor Who wines. I'm Rashelle Cheers. I'm so happy that you're here and that you chose to listen. So why are you here? What are we going to talk about? What is this podcast even about? I love, love, love being the connector. That is my favorite part of being a realtor, is that you meet so many people that have different job, that provide different services. And everybody has a unique story. And I also love, love, love, love wine. And I find that most really great conversations happen over a glass of wine. And I just thought, why wouldn't I start a podcast about that? You know, all these great people with amazing stories. I know really great wine because I'm here in the Pacific Northwest in wine Country. And why not collaborate those two together? So I'm so excited that you're going to join me on this journey, and hopefully you'll learn more about wine and more about our amazing community. I was not born in the Pacific Northwest. I have to admit that I am a transplant, but I've been here since I was five, so does that count? I feel like that counts, right? I grew up in the Wilsonville, Sherwood, Newberg areas. I currently reside in the Newberg area, and I just absolutely love being a tourist in my own backyard. And not only do I love wine, obviously it's delicious and I enjoy it as a beverage, but I love the art that goes behind it the farming, the technology, the chemistry of making a delicious glass of wine. All of those things speak to me. So that is one of the reasons why I also wanted to talk about wine on this podcast. I feel like there's so much that goes into it, and it's so much more than a beverage. A lot of these bottles have great stories and amazing people behind them, so I really wanted to share that with a wide audience, and I hope that you enjoy. I've been a realtor for almost seven years, and during that time, I've held multiple leadership roles where I've gotten to interact and engage with people all throughout the state. Also, throughout the country, I traveled last year to Washington, DC with a bunch of fellow Oregon realtors, where we went to the Capitol building to talk to legislation about fair housing opportunities, how to help our military families, which is super important to me to help military families because I have multiple people in the military, in my family. I've been a veteran's wife, and I just totally understand the process of how buying a house or the VA loan can be, and how hard it can be to. So I'm very passionate about helping our heroes. And because as a daughter of a hero and then a former wife of a hero, I just think it's so important. And then I still have a ton of friends that have served our country, which, by the way, if you have served our country, thank you, thank you, thank you. So very much. From the bottom of my heart, I don't think you or your loved ones get thanked enough, so thank you for that. I am a Disney adult, I'll admit it. And I love it. And I'm very passionate about it. And I guarantee you something about Disney will happen on this podcast. Whether it is guests talking about Disney or Disney tips and tricks, that is actually one thing I'm known for a lot of people will reach out to me and my mom because we go to Disney frequently together and they'll reach out asking you about hotels, best tips and tricks, free souvenirs, all those kinds of things. So stay tuned for later episodes for deep dive into all things magical of the House of mouse. One of the best things I've ever done in my whole life has become a mom. I'm the mother of an amazing nine year old girl, and she is just the light of my life and everything I do. I ask myself, what does she see? What is she learning? Because as if you're a parent, you know your kids are always watching whether you want them to be watching or not. So a lot of times I think of that before I react to anything. I just want to make sure, like, is this something I'd want her to see? And I'm human, so sometimes she sees stuff I don't want her to see, but other times she sees stuff that I'm really proud of. Her, really proud for her to see if that makes sense. you can expect as a listener to hear some things about real estate. Although not every episode we'll talk about real estate or even mention it, but a lot of times it will pop up because of course, a lot of the people I know in my sphere are from my industry and have a lot of things to say about homeownership opportunities within homeownership, selling houses, tips and tricks 1031 exchanges. First time home buyers, sellers, all those things. So I be doing my industry a disservice if I didn't have some of those topics included on this podcast, so I'd love to share those things with you. As a realtor, I'm really passionate about educating the general public on homeownership and what you can do to navigate and also grow your own equity and wealth within real estate. I really wanted to start this podcast because I am very passionate and I love being a connector. If you call me and say, hey, Rochelle, who do you know that raises chickens? I know somebody who do you know that could help fix my car? I know a mechanic. Who do you know? If I want veneers, I know somebody. So I love just being a connector and a student of life. And I love learning about everybody's jobs, too, because they're all so interesting. So on this podcast, you will get to explore that with me. Normally over a cup or glass of wine. Depending on if we're on location or not. But I do plan on interviewing a lot of people within our community. Small business owners, or even big business owners who started small. We all grow from somewhere. I have a very big business mindset, and I'm an entrepreneur at heart, and so I just love seeing that entrepreneurial spirit, be championed and its own environment and atmosphere. And I really want to share that with you. As a realtor that wines, you can also expect to see me on location at some of my favorite wineries in the Pacific Northwest, engaging with the winemakers, the owners, the farmers, sometimes those are all three different people, sometimes they're all the same person. So I love sharing those stories. I hope that you join me as we also tour the Pacific Northwest together. I also want to not only just tour wineries, but mom and pop shops, brick and mortar stores on location to really share with you what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. For my first four episodes, you can expect to hear from someone from the wine industry, someone from the real estate industry, a local fellow, business owner here in the Portland Metro. And then actually another person from the wine industry. So definitely stay tuned to hear more about them, their business, their story, and how they connect with them. also, do you have a favorite wine that you're drinking? I would love to know what's in your glass, whether it's from the Pacific Northwest or not. Definitely share it with me. We will do reviews here on the podcast and talk about different wines, where they're available and what they pair with. what I find so unique about wine is how much it can change what you're eating. So obviously, I'm a foodie. These curves come honest. And what I love about wine is that it really can enhance a meal or ruin it. Like, and it also can. What you're eating can also enhance the wine. And I have never been a science person. That's why I was a theater arts major and now I'm a realtor. But I still love the how science works between food and wine and how they really impact each other and can really change your meal experience and how you enjoy it, or what you enjoy. when I get wine beginners that reach out and they're like I don't know where to get started. I feel like I should be drinking wine. A lot of my friends are drinking wine. Where do I start? My first question back is always do you like sweet things? Do you like more dry things? What do you drink? That's not wine. So if you drink other alcohols, I will listen to what you drink and compare it to it. A lot of times bourbon whiskey drinkers will enjoy red wines because I like that drier and more. Earthy tones. And also, like someone told me once, I like the taste of dirt because I like charcoal. I like the how the barrel tastes. And so normally you can taste a barrel and bourbon whiskey and then red wine. And so someone's like, I think you like the taste of dirt. I've never actually tried out that theory. I've never spoon fed myself dirt. But I do love red wine, bourbon and whiskey so that makes sense. If you like desserts of your super dessert person. I would say start with, like a sweeter wine or a sparkling wine. Something a little softer to, like, guide you into it. If you're kind of in the middle, that's where I would recommend more of, like a mild white that's not so sweet, but also not so dry that it feels like you're drinking dirt. a tequila drinker. Well, I like tequila too, for this. Makes me sound like a raging alcoholic. Tell you, I'm not. I just enjoy spirits. Speaking of which, anybody want to be a sponsor? Just kidding. But if for tequila drinkers, I would lean towards some of the fruity or like, the pear wines to introduce you to wine. Something that has a little bit of zest to it. Sort of crisper white wine or sparkling mine that you would probably have over ice. And for the huge windows, by the way, no one said I was a wine aficionado. I'm a wine enthusiast. Okay. I did not study wine. I'm not as familiar. I can barely say some. I just enjoy wine. And I enjoy Oregon agriculture and supporting local businesses. So take my suggestions for what they are. Just suggestions. By the way, we have a rule. If you're wine tasting after two stops, you buy no wine because you're not going to actually remember what it tastes like and you're going to go home and you're going to open it. And you remember, like, I remember this being really good. Well, it was really good after you had two stops of wine tasting. Always buy at the first or second wine stop. And then for the rest of the time, just enjoy your tastings and make a note to go back before you buy any wine. That's just my $0.02. That's my money. Budget tips for you when it comes to buying wine so that you don't get home and have a surprise. That's very true, actually. I live and die by that statement. I love. Tell us about the bottles you have today. What did you. Oh, sure. So. For my first episode, I brought three bottles of wine with me today. Parrot Wine Co is one of my favorite local wines. Sam Parra is a local Latino winemaker. He has won so many awards, but he's also one of the only well-known Latino winemakers in the area. And and that's an throughout the Pacific Northwest. Sam is amazing. You can find him at different pop ups, like at First Fridays in Newburgh, different tasting rooms or, restaurants and things like that. He has desert wines all the way to a red wine. I just adore Sam and his line. His line is delicious. Right now I'm holding the 2022 Chardonnay from Eola, Amity Hills Ava for you. White nose out there, and then Dobs family wine and, dandy Oregon. This is their rosé. I love Dobbs. I actually recommend Dobbs a lot to people that love red wine. Because their red wines are, They're so good. Full bodies, lots of flavor. But I have the rosé here because I don't love all roses. But I do love Jersey. And then one of my favorite local wineries is Fox Farm. This is a 2018 Pinot noir, also from the L.A. Emily Hills. Fox Farm is also in Dundee, Oregon. The tasting room is just right there off of 99 and then his vineyard is here. He also sources grapes from all throughout the Pacific Northwest. That's one thing that you'll learn as you travel throughout the Pacific Northwest is a lot of the wineries do grow their own grapes, but it's normally just a certain variety because of where we're at and then they'll source grapes from other wineries, including from Washington, California, sometimes Idaho. But mostly it's up and down I-5, if you think about it that way. Or a little bit more to like Walla Walla ish area and Washington, but different climates. Mountain, sunshine, rain. You know, they're all impacts farming, right? So that impacts the grapes and where they come from. So all three of these wineries have grapes here grown here locally and the Willamette Valley and the Dundee Hills. But then they also source grapes from other places too. I would say if you're trying to get wine cheaply and good wine, Trader Joe's is a great ally, and so is, Grocery Outlet, both of those, you can find really great wines for really reasonable pricing. And that's where I tend to go if I need to buy, like if I'm going to a party where I don't know the people that are true wine drinkers or they're just having like a wine night book club, I'll go to Trader Joe's or Grocery Outlet first before I bring something out of my own private collection. Just because Nola tends to you wine beginners. But I don't want to waste the good wine on you. I want to introduce you to something a little softer. And on my, pocketbook and to your palate. So it's a win win for both of us. But if I'm going somewhere to a friend's house or wine tasting, or I know everybody there drinks wine, they love wine. They have certain things that they like. I'll bring wine to accommodate them. And so normally that comes from my private collection. But yeah, Grocery Outlet, Trader Joe's, those are two great options. Fred Meyers also has a great selection. It's not normally as cheap as that. what got me into wine at first was the socialization of it. Like being the connector. I love people, I like talking to people. And so wine tasting has always been a fun activity for me because you're engaging with people, you know, and then you're also engaging with people you don't know because normally you go wine tasting with some girl friends or family and then, you meet people while you're there, wine tasting, and everybody else is also there, wine tasting. And so it's just a fun experience. I started off as somebody that just wanted super sweet, as sugary as you could be to just stomach it, but I was really there for the like, socialization and the experience. And now I go knowing just like anything, right? Like once you have some taste and like, you know what you like and you've tried enough, like now I go like specifically to also just try the wine as well as the socialization to it. But yeah, there was nothing specific that got me into loving wine. Besides just the actual social activity of it. I can be found at wineries now alone. There's a couple other realtors that I love to work with and we like to call it wine and work. And we will show up to a local winery and pull out our laptops and actually be working. But we'll share a glass of wine and then also bounce ideas off each other around real estate, around marketing, or just trouble points that we're having. If you're new to wine, I say try it with a friend, and if you don't have a friend, reach out to me. I would love to take you wine tasting or give you some suggestions on where to go if you're going to explore by yourself. That will have a fun atmosphere where you don't feel like you're by yourself. one thing that I find I lived, I went to school at Kansas State University, and right after I graduated from Kansas State, my then husband and I moved to Kansas City. And so I actually lived. And yes, I am a Chiefs fan. Okay, I love them. I was a fan of them before they were amazing, and I'm still a fan of them now that they're amazing. But I lived in Kansas City for ten years, and Midwest Wine and Pacific Northwest Line, they're not the same. And, one thing that I did experience when I lived in the Midwest and so I've, I've gone to wineries all over the United States. But one thing in the Midwest that I always found really interesting is a lot of them also offer grape juice tasting to nonwhite drinkers, but to the kids to keep kids entertained. And that's fun for them. And a lot of times it's just ocean spray, cran grape ocean spray, peach, grape, ocean spray, raspberry, grape like. But they're having fun. And from a marketing standpoint, I love marketing, I love business, I love sales. It's genius because you're fostering that kind of culture where it's like, okay to have just a little amount. First of all, because the tasting is that right? It's controlled, pours. It's not just about like, oh, radio or partying, but it's like controlled pours and actually experiencing the wine. But same for the grape juice tastings for the kids. It's teaching them one how to engage in that kind of atmosphere, as well as being out like, you know, in public amongst adults. But then they're also having fun and getting to explore a little bit, too, of like, what does it mean to taste different things of one, you know, of juice? Or what does it mean to pair your juice with a cookie palette, you know, things like that. So that's one thing I think the Midwest does really well as incorporate the kiddos in that way, where it's also building them clients for the future. Seriously, that's what it is. It's smart. It's good marketing. I was just recently in Disney World or. No, I wasn't I was in Disneyland. I am currently planning a trip to Disney World, so that's top of mind. But I was just recently at Disneyland. They have a few new, lounges open that we went kid free this trip, and so we checked out there's a new Scottish, lounge at the Grand Californian that we wanted to check out. And there's the Broken Spell Lounge at the Disneyland Hotel that we wanted to check out, as well as, of course, enjoy. And Disney and all its magic. But it was kind of cool to see some of the different, spirits and drinks that they also come up with. The Imagineers are very inventive, which is what makes Disney so magical. What's your favorite ride at Disney? Oh gosh. I would say my favorite experience at Disney is the rise of the resistance. It's to the, grand to call it a ride because you also, it is a whole experience. If I were to work any ride or experience at Disney as I would first, I want to be a tour guide because I think that would be super fun. But I would love to be on the rise of the resistance and be one of the, people that doesn't have to be nice and is like making you feel like you're in jail, you know, and all those things. I want to give too much away. If you haven't been to Disneyland in the last couple of years or experienced the rise of the resistance, but it's a game changer. Even if you don't like Star Wars, you cannot go on that and get off of it and not be impressed at the grandeur of it. Even if you have no idea what's going on. Like, what do you mean, what's a star? What's a Tie fighter? Yeah, but you can definitely appreciate how much goes into the rise of the resistance from a nostalgic standpoint. Peter Pan will always be one of my favorites. It's just. Yeah, that's one I always remember from childhood. I love the Peter Pan ride. Pirates is always a good nostalgic one, too. There's nothing, more magical than the smell of pirates rides any Disney adult will always like. Look at a picture of pirates or cereal or TikTok and be like, I can smell this real because it has such a distinct smell. When you're on Pirates of the Caribbean and then of course, one of my favorite things at Disney is fantastic because who doesn't like to see Mickey Mouse one over and over again? Tell us what's your favorite snack at Disney popcorn? The popcorn is the best at Disneyland. And Disney World. It just smells good. You smell it. As soon as you get in there, you could be so full. And I've just had a huge breakfast. And then you walk in the park and you smell the popcorn and you're like, well, I guess I need popcorn. I just had this past week while I was at Disneyland. Dill pickle popcorn from Cars Land. And if you like dill pickles and you like popcorn. Ooh, those two married together are an amazing relationship. And delicious. It was amazing. I loved every second of it. love partnering with other entrepreneurs and people in business and, and leadership. There's just a certain mindset that goes with all of those roles. And that's how I constantly find myself in leadership roles. Sometimes I'm men, volunteered to be in those roles, and sometimes I'm elected and sometimes I sign myself up. But most recently, I was the 2024, president for the Women's Council of Realtors in Portland, Oregon. And then I'm currently the Oregon director for the Women to Women Network. And then I sit on a few other boards just because I feel like it's really important to give back to your community to serve in that way. A lot of times they don't have the dollars to, like, pay for somebody with certain skills or experience. Especially like one of the boards I sit on is for Aurora, the Aurora, Oregon is a tiny town. There's like 900 people there, and their biggest festival is called Aurora Colony Days. And that's where they all come together in August. And so I serve them as a marketing person and social media, and I like to share my skill set in that way, because before I was on real estate, I did work for corporate America as a digital marketer, and I like to be able to pass on that skill set and use it for evil. I mean good, not evil. Haha. No. I like to use my, talents for good and help the small guys win. And they can't afford a social media marketer. So I like to give my time in that way. I just think it's really important to be a leader and certain roles I have like no financial gain to it because you learn a lot and it just it's important. Like not everything is about financial gain. But I also that's why I'm so passionate about like the women to Women network. It's a volunteer role. My leadership role. I help, all the different chapters throughout the state of Oregon and help guide them in their events and communication and communicating with nationals. And it's amazing to see the spirit of an entrepreneur, a woman, and how much they support each other. And collaboration over competition is such an impactful thing and a message I definitely want my daughter to learn. And so I continue to surround myself with groups like the Women's Council, Realtors, and Women's Women Network. So because I also want my daughter to see that, that like there's such a huge power when women come together. Not to say that we're men haters or anything, that that we love, the men that support us in our business and our growth and our leadership. But there's something to be said when women are pitted against each other and instead they're in each other's corners, raising each other up. So I love being a part of those organizations, and they're very important to me. can definitely find me on most social media platforms and I'll, I'll be connected here with my podcast and on those videos. But please, please, please come back for episodes where I'm actually interviewing guests. I would love to just share, like I said before, their stories with you, and if you think that you would be a great guest or you know anybody that you think could be a great guest, please let me know. I'd love to hear from you or get to know them and definitely invite friends. And don't forget to tell me what you currently have in your class. I want to know what you're drinking and if I should try it out.
